Student ID Generator

Generate unique anonymous IDs for your class before administering any assessment. These IDs are meaningless to students — only you can match them to names.

Privacy by design No names ever enter this system. You generate IDs here, assign them to students in your own Excel or paper list, and hand each student only their number. Assessment results are emailed to you tagged with the ID — you match them to names using your private list.

What to do next
  1. Copy or print this list
  2. Open Excel and paste — add a "Name" column alongside the ID column
  3. Assign one ID to each student — write their name in your spreadsheet
  4. Cut the list into strips and hand each student their ID number on a slip of paper
  5. Tell students: "Write this number in your diary and keep it safe. You'll need it for assessments this year."
  6. Keep your spreadsheet private on your device — it is the only record linking names to IDs
